Welcome to Everyday Pie! Thanks for stopping by!
Everyday Pie is a site dedicated to sharing recipes for pies, pastry and beyond!
- Pies that are easy and can be made for a special weeknight dinner treat.
- Pies that are more complex that take multiple steps, and sometimes multiple days to make, but are so out-of-this-world delicious that the end result is worth the means.
- Pies that are meant for dinner.
- Pies that are perfect for breakfast.
- Pies that are meant to be the finishing touch to the end of a wonderful holiday dinner.
- Or, pies in general just for no other reason besides.. you want to make a pie!
But Everyday Pie is more than that as well. Because making pie sometimes involves more than just a pastry and a filling and a bake. This site is where you will find all that you need to know about baking pies, whether you are a novice cook, or an expert.
You’ll find essential cooking recipes, like how to make caramelized onions or the perfect whipped cream that are directly related to pie, but also recipes that will improve your cooking skills and hopefully make you just as passionate about cooking as I am.
About The Baker Behind Everyday Pie
Hi! I’m Kelli! Welcome to my little space on the internet all about making pie. I’m the creator of Everyday Pie and the woman behind all of the recipes, writing and the photographs on this site.
I started this website out of sheer passion. Despite what changes have come my way over the last 10 years, one thing has stayed consistent in my life, and that is my connection and love for baking pies, and more broadly my unwavering need to be connected to food and cooking.
Who I am, then and now
I am a recipe developer and a baker by trade, with 10 years professional cooking experience, as well as degree in communication. After spending many years cooking on the line in Boston area restaurants in bakeries, and after the birth of my two kids, I started my own baking company delivering hot savory and sweet pies to busy families looking for an easy delicious meal.
While running this business I was diagnosed with a severe allergy to gluten flours, causing me to have to shutter my business to avoid constant contact with large batches of raw flour and knowing I’d likely never return to cooking in professional settings where wheat flour was present. At that point I made the transition over to work in freelance recipe development so I could still fulfill my passion for cooking and baking, while also teaching others how to create delicious food.
About the recipes on everyday pie
This site will share equal parts recipes containing regular wheat (gluten) and also gluten-free. While I will still taste small quantities of wheat recipes when needed, I am personally now (a reluctant) gluten-free eater due to my allergy. Since my diagnosis, I’ve been deep diving into the world of gluten-free baking and cooking and I have learned, and will continue to learn all about perfecting recipes without wheat. I would describe my philosophy surrounding creating pies without wheat as a simple standard: “does it taste delicious? or is it simply a subpar stand in for wheat?” If it’s the latter, I keep working until I make it the former. I can’t be satisfied with recipes that simply offer a substitute. They have to actually taste good, or else it isn’t worth it.
What makes this website, and these recipes unique is that it is the best of both worlds: I still love baking with wheat and have so much knowledge to share about working with it, so the emphasis is on those recipes. However I have discovered amazing gluten-free flours that are worth working with, whether you have an allergy or intolerance to gluten or not. The gluten-free recipes I’ve created in the last year will be beloved from all, and I can’t wait for you to try them.
Thank you for reading all about Everyday Pie.
