Deep Dish Apple Pie

This Deep Dish Apple Pie is made with almost 5-½ pounds of apples, just the right amount of cinnamon. Trying to pack in all that apple proved can be a bit tricky; however, with a few simple tips, this mile-high pie is sure to be a showstopper

– baking apples – flour – butter – brown sugar + white sugar – cinnamon + nutmeg – cornstarch – lemon juice – salt – vanilla extract -apple cider

INGREDIENTS

Make the pie crust by hand, or optionally in a food processor.

MAKE PASTRY

Wrap the pastry in plastic and let it rest in the refrigerator, preferably overnight.

Mix together apples, sugar, spices and let it macerate for at least 30 minutes.

MAKE FILLING

Add remaining ingredients to the macerated apples and cook, until the apples are soft and the mixture has thickened. Let cool.

MAKE FILLING

Roll out the pastry and place inside of a 9" deep dish pie plate. Roll out the top and set it aside.

ASSEMBLE

Add the cooled filling to the pie crust, and finish assembly by adding the rolled top crust.

Bake until the pie is golden and bubbling throughout, about 1 hour.
